Summer Break

Haven't updated for some time,

I finished my Final majour project and with it my Multimedia course, that was back sometime in June, so I've been on Summer break for quite a while. Like we always do at the end of the year we had a presentation evening that shows all the work of the Students. Turned out that I didn't get the Vincent lines award this time, but I didn't expect to.

So I've finished my Trailer then, I am not sure what to do with it. I would like to put it online, but I don't want to use a Flash publishing site because it's just a made up trailer and not a full animation. Would prefer to put it on Youtube, but I still don't know how to put Flash animation on it. Well if it ever makes it way online I'll menction it.

At this moment in time me going to maidstone university is very likely, I might be getting a dorm about ten minutes away, because me traveling there every day from home will be a nightmare (Trains are shit, do I need to say more?) So naturally I am abit nervous about the idea of living away from home, it's not too bad though, I can come home on weekends and any other days I might have off. I guess the main worry will be the other people at the Dorms. Well anyways in the weeks leading up to the start of the Animation course me and my parents will get prepared for anything I might need.

Next week on friday the 1st of August of course is my birthday, and then straight after that we will be on Holiday, so expect a huge update on that when it's over.

Maidstone

Last week's Wensday (28th of may) My parents drove me to Maidstone university for an interview there. I applied for it when we found that they did an animation course there, and Maidstone isn't as far as Westminster. Naturally I was a little nervous but it went surprizingly well, I met up with the course leader, we talked and I showed him my previous college work including animations, he was quite impressed, particularly with my horror film montage I did a while back, he said it was edited well, And apprantly this guy isn't easy to impress so I think that went very well.
And so I've been given a place on the course *does victory dance* now we've just got to work out how the hell I am surposed to get over there independently.

It's comming to the very end of my course, and I've almost finished my trailer, it has tooken slightly longer than expected, but at this rate I'll make the deadline for sure. So far it's a vast improvement on my last final majour project from two years ago, but then again that's not saying much as I was still new at flash at the time. But if I got the 'Vincent line award' for that little thing, then they should check out my trailer. Would be cool to get the award again, But I don't think that will happen, surely I can't beat up to 700 other students a second time.

Reflection Teaser

Haven't posted for a while, been very busy doing my final majour project. I long since finalized the character designs and have started the production of the trailer proper. been working on it for over a week now. I have about four more weeks left for this project, not counting a fifth and last one, but that week should be for putting the work together ready for reviewing.

Anyways I thought I'd spend a quick moment to make this teaser image.

Final Majour Project

So it has began, the final majour project, my last project on my Multimedia course which will go on till late May, then I will break up for good early June.

So obviously I am doing an animation as I've planned long ago, but I've given myself quite a challege, my project will be a trailer for an made up anime film, I've neither tried to make something like a trailer or anything in true anime style, so it should be intresting. The only problem of the moment is comming up with a story to base it around, can't think of anything at the moment, it has to be a good story from an visual perspective for the tralier to be good. Well I am still doing research so hopfully an idea might arise from that.

For a good grade I will have to do most of this all by my own, I even have to manage my own time table. I've given myself two weeks of research and rougth ideas, a week of design, two weeks of storyboarding and Six weeks of production, that isn't as long as it sounds, you have to remember I only go to college for two and a half days, though it's true I can do stuff at home too, though I am not sure about production, the college's version of flash is much older than my version at home, meaning anything I do at home on flash won't work on the college version.

So that's all for now, clearly still in the early stages of the project, expect to hear of more very soon

University

College has been the usual, mostly website design and cover work, nothing I've haven't done before. However next week is when we start our final majour projects, where we can choose what to do. So I am looking forward to that, as I've said a few times before I plan to make mine an animation, being my last project for this course it has to be pretty good.

Last week on thursday (14th Feb) I went up to London to Westminster university. For about a year now I've been thinking of going there to study Animation after I've done my multimedia course. I am not so sure about it now though, getting to the university from Hastings is a bit complicated, it isn't just one train trip we are talking about, I would have to change trains halfway and then when I get to London I then would have to take the subway underground. For someone like myself that might just be abit too much, I don't do well under new and unpredictable siterations, especially if it's just me by myself.
Another proublem would be the cost, the university course is about three years, three years of me having to go up to London and back every three days a week is going to be quite expensive for someone who isn't employed such as myself.

The only other option would to stay at the student accommodations near the college. But even then I would be thrown into a whole list of new and unpreditable siterations, such as having to look after myself and stuff. I know I will have to start an independant life at some point, but I rather take it one step at a time, not thrown into the deep end and left to strive by myself.
And knowing my social record so far, It's likely I am not going to be social and make friends easily which might would leave me alone in London feeling isolated.
It's a shame really, because the course looked good and I bet that part of University would be a push over, that's the sort of thing I can do myself, the academic side. Typical Aspergers then really, the social side of life is always that gets me.

So as of the moment I am not too sure what I am going to do after my current course. Hopefully a more manageable option might pop up, that's what I am hoping for at the moment anyways.

Christmas and New years

Well Christmas day went well, I got the usual presents, chocolate, DVDs, games. Though just like last year with my undead butler, my parents got me another cool surprize present that I didn't ask for

A set of three katanas! These are replicas of the ones in Kill Bill, One is the Brides, one is Bill's and one is Budds.

On new year's eve we went to London to see the Tutankhamun exhibition that they have setted up in The O2 (a entertainment district which has been built in what was left of the Millennium Dome) The exhibition was good, shame they coulden't get Tutankhamun's mummy himself, but it still was intresting to see the stuff that was found in his tomb.

Right now I feel crap, I've got a cold just after three weeks from recovering from another cold, and that one lasted for over a week, I hope the one I have now doesn't last that long

Merry Christmas!!

Well it's that time of year again, so here's something festive

Actually this is just a still of a compete animation I was planning to show in this place, I got it all done and ready on Christmas eve, only for Youtube to reject it, saying it was an unreconised file format, which is a load of bullshit because the file was an MOV file and the most common files used on youtube are MOV files! So today I had to find an alternative way to get it online, by publishing it on an flash animation site, but the website owners have to judge everything they get before allowing it online, so theres no way it would get up today. So Thanks a freaking bunch youtube, that's the second time you have prevented my stuff getting on in time for a holiday.

Well other than youtube screwing me around, Christmas day has been great, I will detail about the gifts I got in a later entry

Horror Montage

Well I've finnally got the damn Horror film montage online, Since the start of the second term I haven't been able to get my hands on the computer I used to make it until very recently. Oh well it's here now,

Clicky

The bowling is going fine, well I say that because I've only been twice so far, on the other weeks I've gone to the meeting place to find noone there, no students, no bus, no teachers. I have no idea what's going on, there's noone I can really ask about it, since the teachers get swapped round. There's only the noticeboard for me to check and theres nothing on there that's usefull, I don't know if they changed the meeting time, or if it's only on some weeks or whatever. Noone has chased me up on it so I guess noone really cares much about it, I guess the whole "Getting expelled' thing was an empty threat.

Bowling during college? What the?

Start of the second term this week, first term was quite intresting. We had to create a film that uses sound to great effect, inspired from a student's work from the year before I decided to create a montage of horror movies from different decades, using a soundtrack to make it into a mood piece, had 'noseferatu' from the 1920s, the orginal 'night of the living dead' from the 1960s, 'The Excorist' from the 1970s and so on. I thought it would be great to put online in time for Halloween but I made the film and found the quality of the film was too much for Youtube and I coulden't get back to college to create a more web friendly version out in time. I'll try to get it up sometime when I can, not too soon though, might be bad luck to do something Halloweeny too soon after the day or something, I don't know.

So anyways the start of a new term, the college principle thought it would be good to form a enrichment program where the students get Wednesday afternoons off to do group activites, which would be nice if it was optional, but we are forced to do it, to refuse to participate will get you expelled. It's a complete waste of time if you ask me, most of the activites are crap, there were only two that I liked the look of, drawing and film study, but because of the popularity of those two activites I didn't get in either and got my last choice, Bowling which I only choose as a back up choice. The whole Bowling thing makes it even more pointless in my eyes, at least drawing and film study were somewhat reverent to my course, but to take away my Wednesday afternoons to go bloody Bowling? With a group of people that I don't even know? (I was the only sucker in my course to get on it, everyone else doing Bowling are from different courses) Well at least I got the highest score in my bowling group, that took away some of my bitterness of the whole thing.

Back to college!

This week was the first week back to college, start of the second year of my National diploma course! I now go on in Wensdays, Thursdays and Fridays, which means I won't have breaks in between days like before, but will have a four days off in a row! whoopie, four day weekend!!! :P
Settling back in was pretty easy going, I only had to re-enrole and update my student card, a contrast of the embarrssing case of me not remembering where to write parts of my bank details from last year.

This year will be devoted to finishing off the subjects we haven't completed yet and will end on a final majour project just like on the 1st diploma course, where we will choose our subject matter. I am going to stick with what I am good at produce an animation, though I feel the stakes will be higher on this one, if I am really serious about studying further into animation, such as university or another college, I think I will have to produce something that will really sell me.

Talking of which, I did say at the beggining of July that I was thinking of using the summer time to create something, well I did make a start of an animation though I am far from finished. But I don't think showing a peek of what it will look like will hurt.

If this animation turns out how I want, it will become what I hope will be the prouper first full deceant animation I will put on the web, as well hopfully being something to add to my portfolio

Holiday

Got back from holiday at Blackpool on saturday the 11th, been away for just over a week. Having the holiday during August wasn't the only depature from the norm, this time we left on 3rd of August in the afternoon instead of early in the morning and stopped halfway at Birmingham and spent the night at a travel lodge, then on the following day we traveled the rest of the way to Blackpool. What was the same as previous holidays however was that we spent the week at a Haven holiday camp in a caravan.

On Sunday the 5th, we went to Blackpool zoo, been to alot of zoos before so not a great deal to menction, we got to see alot more animals being fead than usual. One of the more amusing things of the day were seeing these huge tortoises, when we first looked and looked again on our way out there was always one stuck on it's back frailing it's legs about as it tried to get upright. We then later learned we kept seeing this because the male tortoises get into fights for dominance that always resulted in the loser being rolled onto it's back. Funny little creatures

On Monday the 6th we went to the Blackpool seafront, which being a seaside resort would make that the most known part, along the seafront is tram line, so we arived by that. The main visit was Blackpool tower, which is 518 feet 9 inches tall, though doesn't stand by itself because it's base has been belt over by a building. The buidling houses a Circus and a ballroom amoung a few smaller other things. We hang around to see the Circus and saw the rest of the building before going up the tower itself by lift. Up the tower is three levels you can look from, though you can't climb all the way to the very top which is just a crows nest. The first top level has a glass floor panel which you can see all the way down from, called the 'walk of faith' though it really should be called the step of faith considering it's size. We went up the tower twice, once during the day and later when it became dark to see the town lights.

On tuesday the 7th we visted the Ingleborough Cave, which is a natural limestone cave which was carved mostly the water running through it, though 19th century explorers did the rest, including some knocking down in order to drain an otherwise flooded section, they didn't have the water exploring kit we have now after all. In order to get to the caves we had to park at the nearby village of Clapham and then walk a nature trail through a wooded valley and an open dale, following a lake that lead into a river that lead to the cave. The cave itself was pretty good, we coulden't see all of it since alot of it is dangerous, which is a shame because apprantly it goes on for miles, futher in is britain's highest waterfall which would of been nice to see for real but oh well, what we did see in the cave were natural carvings of limestone that have been given names (as explorers do) theres stalactites & stalagmites and just bizare carvings. There was one really creepy carving just comming out of a crack in the ceiling they have called 'The witches hand' because it sorta does look like a hand peeking out. They say it's unlucky to have water dripping off it landing on you, not that I am the awfully superstitious type, but I coulden't help to feel a tad nervous when I got dripped on by it by chance.

On wensday the 8th we went to the nearby lake district, I feget the names of the nearby villages we passed. We toke a boat trip from one side of the lake to the other. We then went a look around the nearby countryside to have a good look at the mountin like hills that we saw when on the boat.

On thursday the 9th we went to a theme park at Blackpools seafront called 'Pleasure Beach' home to 'The Big One' Europes tallest roller coaster, so naturaly I wanted to go on it, so I went with my brother and dad, my dad closed his eyes the big wuss. We also went on another ride, I feget it's name, but it's simalar to the 'Nemesis' ride at Alton towers, where your legs are dangleing and you go through loops and corkscrews. We also went on this ride called 'Valhalla' which is a water based ride and you end up getting soaked after riding it, you could buy cheap plasticy coats to keep dry, dad got one, but me and Josh coulden't be arsed, whats the point on going on a water ride if your not going to get wet? thats like closing your eyes on a roller coaster :P there were other rides we went on, but those three were the best.

Friday was the day we planned to leave for the trip back home, in the afternoon again, so we spent the morning fitting in whatever was at Blackpools seafront we hadn't seen yet. We went to the Louis Tussauds Waxworks, an Doctor who exhibition though predictably it was mostly full of stuff from the old series, with only one room with a few stuff from the new series, funny dalek display though (mind you I find Daleks in general funny, excitable fellows) We also went to this show played at 'Pleasure Beach' (since the show wasn't on when we visited the day before) it was a very dancey sort of show, not my thing really, but a different experience I guess. One thing we never got round to going was the 'Sandcastle Waterpark' which is the UK's largest indoor waterpark (with 18 slides and attractions!) but we wern't going to pay the large ammount of money it took to get in. So having done all we wanted we left the holiday camp in the afternoon and again stopped halfway at a travel lodge and finished the journy on the following saturday.

Ypres......Or not

Last Sunday it apprantly rained down hard, not that I would know much about that because at the time we were at Belgium where it was friggin hot, So it was Europe that has stolen our summer! :P

To be honest though, the trip was abit crap, we wanted to go to the town of Ypres, and since we didn't know how to get there we joined a coach that was going there for the day, seemed okay at first, we left around 11:00am and we were to leave Ypres at 6:00pm, it would of token a few hours to get there so we thought we'd get at least a few hours to go around the area. However we stopped at so many places that it was 4:10pm when we got there, leaving the ammount of time to actually have a look around to only 1 hour and 50 minutes, which didn't give us much time to see most of what we came to look at. So hoping to salvage what was left of our day trip we hoped to visit the local musuem....which was closed an hour before we arived, which left us with only 'the last post' which is an commemorating event for the soliders who died at Ypres during the first world war, but the proublem with that is it started at 8:00pm, two hours after we leave.

So basicly we saw next to nothing, well we had an hour and 50 minutes to look around the town centre, but that's hardly worth the trip of crossing south east england, through the euro tunnel and across France and Belgium for. To finish off the day the coach broke down on the trip back home, but noone can be blamed for that. It was just one of those days where everything just goes wrong.

Red, Green and Blue

This had been an intresting term at college, a trip to London to wacth some really werid movies at two different art exhibitions, on one day we were visisted by a group of people from different media industires who gave us an insight of what their work is like. Of course I was intrested in the ones who do web development and animation. In the final hours we students got to show our work to these professionals and have feed back. I showed my Flash animations and I was told it was impressive considering I am still at early stages in this sort of education.

So now we are at our last working week for this term, next week we have our tutorials and a online test that someone higher up apprantly has insisted we take, but it shoulden't be anything to worry about. Once that's all done then we are free for summer break, and we would of completed the first year in this two year course.

The work in this term was the usual, however we got to do some 3D animation for the first time, before we just made CGI images but this time we got to animate stuff. I just completed my today (well, yesterday since it's past midnight) and I got put up on Youtube, I call it 'Red, Green and Blue' for obvious reasons which will be apprant when you wacth it. I quite like it, it's different from anything I've done before.
So anyways here's the link to it

Merry Christmas (2006)

Well it's christmas time again, and as of tradition I've made something at the last moment to reflect on the seasonal holiday.

To the point and slightly morbid, just how I like it!
On an unrelated note, two days ago I accidently knocked over the kichen kettle which was half full while making a cup of tea and had the boiling water pour onto my left foot that had nothing on but socks. I will just say that scalding your foot bloody hurts! >_< hopefully the scald marks arn't permanent.
So anyways I hope everyone has a great christmas.

FFXI Adventures: Jifan gets a sidekick

An update for my progress in Final fantasy XI for those intrested (I am looking at you, Malice/San!)I haven't really updated much on the game because not there wasn't much new stuff to report (the game is still edictive never the less) that is untill now. Around summer the game makers have updated the game with an new intresting feature, if you do a particlear misson you will be rewarded with a AI (Artificial intelligence) buddy that will follow you around and help fight battles for you. The speices of the AI buddy can be whatever you want (any of the creatures that are playable in the game) The cacth is 1: you can only have the buddy around for a limited amount of time, 2: the buddy disapears if you enter a new area, and the most annoying is 3: you have to wait 20 hours between summons. So basicly you see the buddy only once a day (if you play that much) Also you can't directly name the Buddy yourself but you can choose from a small list so it isn't to bad.

So anyways when deciding what my AI buddy would be I decided to go for a contrast to Jifan, so if Jifan is a Tall, white haired, Male Elvaan, My buddy would be a short, black haired female Taru taru (the little cute things) and I picked the name Jajuju, which seems to be a perfect compliment to Jifan. So anyways the following pics are of Jifan getting to know his new friend!

Jifan and Jajuju

Chilling

They both share a common intrest, kicking ass

Jajuju: You say your normally a Ninja? how can a gaint like you get by without being spotted?

Shame I can't always have Jajuju follow me around, shes just so cute ^^ well anyways thats the latest news, next update hopefully will be about my finished movie on Thursday

Humour quiz thingy

the Ham

(34% dark, 43% spontaneous, 27% vulgar)

your humor style:
CLEAN | SPONTANEOUS | LIGHT

Your style's mostly goofy, innocent and feel-good. Perfect for parties and for the dads who chaperone them. You can actually get away with corny jokes, and I bet your sense of humor is a guilty pleasure for your friends. People of your type are often the most approachable and popular people in their circle. Your simple & silly good-naturedness is immediately recognizable, and it sets you apart in this sarcastic world.

PEOPLE LIKE YOU: Will Ferrell - Will Smith

More FF11 tales

quite a while back in the game I earned a pass to ride on an airship to a little town called Kazam, a new place to visit, so adenturing I did go.

Waiting at the port

What a view

weeeeeeee!

I can see the Windhust tree from up here

And so I arived at Kazam, the flaver of this town was jungley, so I didn't take many pics since the place was small and look samey all over

In Kazam

The outside Jungle was pretty samey too, I traveled around it leveling up, and then I had to go through it on a misson to earn the Ninja job.

Bloody Jungle traffic

Still caught up

The next place I needed to go to acheive the Ninja job was a small place called Norg, where pirates and low lifes live, it basicly was in a cave so most pictures I toke didn't come out well because of the dark

Norg Dock

Nice view

Soon I did what I had to do in Norg and made my way back out and thus earning the Nina job, So I started training at once.

Moogle: You must leave the clothing of the old before you start anew Jifan: Ohh its abit chilly

The monsters kept laughing at the size Jifan's beginner's Kantana

Finally, Jifan is now a respectable Ninja
